Questions people ask
Are there any energy efficiency tax credits in 2026?
Not for new installs. The 25C and 25D credits don't apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Work done in 2025 can still be claimed on your 2025 return.
How do I find rebates in my area?
Enter your ZIP in the rebate finder. It shows your state's HOMES and HEAR status and links to the official ENERGY STAR, DSIRE and Rewiring America lookups for utility rebates.
Who qualifies for HEAR and HOMES rebates?
HEAR is for households under 150% of area median income. HOMES is open to more homeowners and pays more if you're under 80%. Each state runs its own program and application.
Do I need an approved contractor?
Usually yes. Most state programs only pay when a registered contractor does the work, so check before you sign.
Can I combine a state rebate with a utility rebate?
Often, but not always. Some programs reduce their payout if another rebate covers the same equipment. Your state program's FAQ will say.
